This is the sequence our engineers follow onboard - the same checklist a superintendent can hand to the ship's staff before we arrive.

    Alarm history and load condition

    We take the alarm printout and establish exactly what the plant was doing when the fault appeared - load change, generator start, heavy consumer cut in, or at rest.

  2. 02

    Safe isolation and visual inspection

    The affected section is isolated and locked off, then checked for discoloured or slack connections, tracking marks, moisture ingress and salt or oil contamination inside the panel.

  3. 03

    Thermal and connection checks

    Busbar and terminal connections are checked for heating and re-torqued where required. Loose terminations are a common root cause behind repeat trips.

  4. 04

    Earth fault localisation

    Insulation resistance is measured and the distribution split feeder by feeder to isolate the faulty circuit, rather than condemning the whole board or leaving the earth lamp indication unresolved.

  5. 05

    Protection and breaker testing

    Overcurrent, reverse power, under-voltage and preference trip settings are verified against the drawings, and breaker mechanisms, contacts and closing coils tested.

  6. 06

    Synchronising and load sharing

    Governor and AVR response, droop settings, synchroscope and auto-synchronising function and kW/kVAr sharing between generators are checked under load.

  7. 07

    Generator side verification

    If the fault sits on the machine, insulation resistance, polarisation index, AVR, rotating diodes and slip rings are tested - and a rewind quoted from our Fujairah workshop if the winding has failed.

  8. 08

    Repair, controlled re-energising and report

    After repair the section is re-energised in a controlled sequence, load tested, and the cause and readings issued to the vessel in a written report.
